SYMPOSIUM · IDEOLOGY OF THE IMAGINARY in the 21St CENTURY
Thursday 1 - Friday 2 MARCH, 10am - 4pm
symposium

IDEOLOGY of the IMAGINARY in the 21st CENTURY is a symposium and exhibition project exploring issues of art, culture and new media. Despite the numerous 'tech-specific', or 'future looking' events appearing daily on the world stage, it is worth noting that we are almost at the end of the first decade of this century, and yet the discourses which we are using are quite old – postmodern at best! IDEOLOGY of the IMAGINARY is therefore aimed at defining the concepts and processes appropriate for the beginning of the 21st century. Some of the themes the speakers are urged to visit: What are the decisive theoretical and practical developments of this decade? How has the ideological framework of images shifted in the 21st Century? How can we measure the real power of these images? Are some aesthetic categories or concepts of the late 20th century already obsolete? Are there new categories appearing on the horizon?

Bio-technology and other wireless (or less so) technologies are offering themselves to us quite openly, but perhaps more important are the hidden, underlying processes in our society, which we seem to constantly neglect.
